The house dust allergy: especially bad in autumn and winter<\/span><\/h1>\n

The house dust allergy<\/a> itself does not actually exist. Rather, the person affected is allergic to the excrement of the dust mites<\/a>, whose fine particles have attached themselves to normal dust.<\/p>\n

This excrement consists mainly of protein building materials to which the body reacts allergically. Typical symptoms are runny noses, red eyes, sneezing, heavy breathing and in the worst case coughing and asthma.<\/p>\n

The period of suffering begins with the start of the heating period<\/span><\/h2>\n

In autumn, when the heating is turned on for the very first time, affected patients often notice a sudden allergic reaction. With the start of the heating period the symptoms become stronger and some even complain of headaches in the morning.<\/p>\n

The reason for these severe allergic reactions is the dust that is stirred up when a heater is used. The warm air above the heater rises quickly and swirls across the ceiling in the room. As radiators in particular are usually particularly difficult to clean, as it is difficult to get behind the radiators and, in the case of older radiators, between the ribs, a lot of dust collects there. Of course, as described above, this dust also contains a lot of mite excrement, which is inhaled.<\/p>\n

Make your bedroom fit before the heating season<\/span><\/h2>\n

Remove as many dust traps as possible from your bedroom. Do not leave decorative items, books, linen and other things lying around. Wreaths, dried flowers and flower arrangements have no place in a bedroom, by the way.<\/p>\n

What should you do regularly at the beginning of the heating season?<\/span><\/h2>\n

Before you turn on the heating for the first time in autumn, you should thoroughly clean the rooms and especially the bedroom from dust<\/strong>. You should pay particular attention to the radiators<\/strong>. If possible, wipe them with a damp cloth<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Expert tip<\/strong>: Place a bowl under the radiator or place a few rags and towels under it. Then carefully let some water (a little!) run between the ribs of the radiator, so that the dust behind it is bound by the water and washed away. Then dry the radiator thoroughly with warm air (for example with a hair dryer) so that it does not rust.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

If you use curtains<\/strong>, wash them before switching on the heating for the first time. One or two more washes in winter will reduce the dust considerably.<\/p>\n

Throughout the heating period, you should wipe dust<\/strong> regularly and also swipe the floor<\/strong>, provided that you have a smooth floor, which we strongly recommend. If at all, only a short pile carpet is suitable as a carpet. A vacuum cleaner with a micro filter (HEPA filter) is mandatory for carpets.<\/p>\n

The best action<\/strong> in autumn and winter is certainly an air purifier<\/strong> that reliably filters the smallest dust particles from the air. Place this in your bedroom during the day and always leave it running when you are at home. Note: For safety reasons, switch off the air purifier (as well as other electrical appliances) when you leave the house.<\/p>\n
